Summer Programs 2019
July 29 - August 2 Gardening
Ready to get dirty? This week the children will be botanists studying the plants and flowers around our school grounds, our own Sunrise Community Garden box, and plants in our classroom. They will learn about the planting, caring for, and the harvesting processes of herbs, vegetables, and flowering plants. Also, they will decorate individual clay pots to grow their own mini herb garden or a flowering plant to then bring home and nurture throughout the summer. Activities will combine indoor botany activities and outdoor planting.

This week the focus is on Language and Art! We will blend the combination of books and activities inspired from two amazing children’s authors, Leo Lionni and Eric Carle. Children will be motivated to reach beyond and create art that is unique to them along with the use of felt and story boards. Books for inspiration will include, “Inch By Inch”, “A Color of His Own”, “Fredrick” ,“The Mixed up Chameleon”, “A House for Hermit Crab”, and “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”.

This week the children will be scientists investigating the phases of matter – liquid, solid, and gas! We will experiment with liquids by making solutions, testing solubility and observing the viscosity of liquids and then add solids to the mix and continue to investigate. We will also discover the matter of gas as one of the final phases! This week will include a special visit from the Children’s Museum of Easton, and the children will participate in their “What’s the Matter” program.
